A beautiful fireplace design can serve as an eye-catching focal point in any space. Connecticut Stone is happy to assist with fireplace renovations as one of the many services offered by our friendly and knowledgeable staff. Whether you're interested in a simple update/refresh or a total floor-to-ceiling renovation, we have the tools, team, and know-how to help make your dream fireplace happen.

Fireplace Construction or Renovation: What to Expect

Whether you'll be building a new fireplace from floor-to-ceiling or simply want to refresh an existing fireplace, our team can walk you through the process.

Most clients begin by providing us with an inspiration photo, which gives us a better idea of the color, pattern, or style that they're going for. From there, we'll also request a photo of either the current fireplace (for renovations) or the firebox (for new construction), along with some preliminary dimensions of the firebox for pricing purposes.

Depending on the scope of the work, our team may then schedule a site visit to see the job in person. From there, clients can work with a sales representative to select the appropriate stone or tile for the fireplace itself. During this time, we're happy to send images and physical samples to the client to get a better feel for their options.

Once we have all the information we need, we can provide a written estimate to the client. Depending on the client's preferences, we can either supply just the product, or we can handle the entire renovation, including demolition of the existing fireplace where applicable.

Unique Ideas For Styling Your New Fireplace

With so many options to choose from, there's a solution for every client's unique design tastes. Explore a handful of ideas for styling a new fireplace below and get some inspiration for your project!

Fireplace Slip & Hearth

Clients looking for an affordable way to completely refresh an existing fireplace surround should explore fireplace slip and hearth options. This type of fireplace design consists of four slab pieces, including one hearth and a slip with one header and two legs.

These surrounds can be made from marble, limestone, soapstone, porcelain, or granite to achieve the desired look. Some clients who prefer a more traditional look have also added a wood or stone mantel at the top of the slip, whereas other clients have achieved a modern or minimalist feel by keeping the stone bare. The options here are nearly endless!

ThinStone™

Our ThinStone™ veneer is an excellent option for achieving nearly any look (modern, transitional, rustic, etc.) without the heavy lifting. Offered in more than 80 different colors and patterns, homeowners have plenty of options to choose from. Clients should be aware that ThinStone™ will need to be installed by a professional mason; we simply supply the materials.

Natural Stone Mantels

We offer supply, fabrication, and installation services for natural stone fireplace mantels. With this type of project, we build a custom mantel from slabs of our most popular stones, which include (but are not limited to):

Slab fireplaces are highly technical and require expertise, but our team has plenty of experience and can handle the project from concept through installation. We often collaborate directly with architects or designers for these projects to achieve stunning results that wow our clients.

Porcelain Slab Fireplace

For clients looking for an alternative to natural stone, porcelain slab fireplaces can offer a variety of looks and styles that you can't typically achieve with natural stone. Whether you're going for a natural stone, wood, or industrial metallic look, you can achieve any of these with porcelain slabs. Porcelain is also thinner and much lighter weight, making this a good option for projects with these required site conditions. In addition, a porcelain slab fireplace achieves a similar look (and follows a similar design/fabrication and installation process to natural stone), it's just a different material.

Tile Fireplace

Tile is another cost-effective option for updating a fireplace; we offer both natural stone and porcelain tiles to help clients achieve the look they desire.

Hybrid Fireplace

Many clients prefer to take a hybrid approach for a truly customized look that involves combining both tile and slab. Some clients go for a more uniform feel with matching tile and slab materials, whereas others like to get a little more creative by mixing and matching. Either way, our team is here to help!
