Step Outside with Stone

Today’s new homeowner trend is looking to expand their outdoor living space to create a more open area for guests to gather. Pools and spa areas have increased in popularity to incorporate areas for relaxation and entertainment. However, weather can sometimes pose a threat to maintain your glorious outdoor living space.

Fortunately at Connecticut Stone, we have found a solution for the changing climate we face in this region. From years of experience working with stone, we have a couple of suggestions for finding reliable products to address the harsh weather of our climate, without giving up style.

One favorite stone that is popular (and cost efficient!) for large surfaces is Bluestone. This stone is beautiful and timeless at home, complementing modern transitional or traditional architecture. However, this stone can become extremely hot, and rough on the feet. Luckily, there are several processes that can be put in place to correct these two complaints.

While this stone is a favorite, we have some other suggestions that may be better suited for your outdoor living space:

The porcelain paver has become a new trend. The consistently textured surface alleviates some of the tripping hazards of natural cleft Bluestone and is available in a variety of sizes, shades and patterns. And it’s easy to clean! Unlike popular stone, porcelain is impervious to discoloration from pollen, leaves, bird droppings, grease, food and drink stains.

Dekton is another product that is revolutionary for your patio. Dekton is thermal shock proof to withstand extreme cold and heat. It is more resistant to abrasion than granite and highly immune to UV light, it will not fade or degrade. Dekton’s non-porous nature resists all kinds of stains making it a smart choice for installation around barbecues and outdoor kitchens.

Limestone is also a great choice for poolscapes. Its light color deflects heat and stays cool on bare feet. Connecticut Stone has sourced a beautiful natural stone, Jerusalem Grey, which offers two finishes in one product.

For durability purposes, granite is an excellent choice. This hardworking stone maintains a uniform texture and cool temperature beneath one’s feet. Composed of quartz, mica and feldspar, this surface requires virtually no maintenance.

Keeping all of these stones in mind, you can create your backyard getaway. Contact us for more information, and our knowledgeable staff can help you discover the perfect stone for your home.
