How Connecticut Stone Took This Fireplace From Dated to Delightful

At Connecticut Stone, we’re always up for a new challenge. So, when a client approached us seeking assistance with an extensive fireplace remodel, it was all-hands-on-deck. For several months, we were able to work alongside the client who had a very specific vision for a beautiful and updated fireplace surround at her home in beautiful Branford, Connecticut.

More About the Project

The home itself is located in the Juniper Point section of Pine Orchard, boasting views of what the client describes as “a magical wetland marsh and the Long Island Sound.” Upon walking into the home’s living room, you’re greeted with soaring 24-foot ceilings and a two-story wall of windows with stunning views.

Along the east wall of the living room was a fireplace that the client considered underwhelming. With its flat (and cracked) travertine slab, unsightly soot marks, and outdated cabinetry doors flanking either side of the hearth, this fireplace needed a makeover.

The client described her inspiration “to transform the fireplace into what it deserved to be: a dramatic focal point that would complement the incredible view and light streaming in from the tall wall of windows just a head-turn away.”

How Connecticut Stone Helped

Throughout this project, the client had a rather specific vision of how the fireplace would look when all was said and done. Connecticut Stone’s own Tyra Dellacroce was able to work with the client from start to finish to create a custom fireplace based on the design and space requirements.

Tyra assisted the client in choosing the best material for the updated surround. The client wanted something light in color but that was not porous. Tyra recommended a sintered stone that could withstand high heat environments while providing the modern and clean look the client desired: a beautiful Lapitec Arabescato Perla in a Satin Finish.

In addition to helping choose the stone for the fireplace surround, Tyra and the Connecticut Stone team were able to create design drawings, complete the necessary templating, and make changes as needed to ensure that the client would be completely satisfied. From conceptualization to completion, Connecticut Stone was honored to bring this client’s vision to life.

The Final Result

This completely renovated fireplace turned out wonderfully. From the sleek and modern stone surround to the soaring new chimney bump-out, this fireplace transforms the space and provides the custom look the client desired. The client actually describes the new fireplace as “an architectural focal point [that] makes everything in the room more beautiful.”

This thankful client even raved that “working with Tyra was a great experience. […] Her team is really responsive. Whenever I had questions or wanted an update, they always got back to me quickly.”

We’re so grateful to have been a part of this project, and we hope our client continues to enjoy this stunning new fireplace for many years to come.
